Muhammad Ridwan, Senior Market Analyst, International Data Corporation (IDC) Indonesian Telecommunications Sector, said the growth in use of Google's Android operating system on smartphones, the Blackberry OS and Android OS increased during the third quarter this year compared with the previous quarter.
"The use of the Android OS in smart phone during that period rose to 200% compared with the previous quarter, while the Blackberry OS increased by 70%," he told Business Today.

He explained the use of other operating system on smartphones such as Symbian, iPhone, and Windows Mobile during the quarter III/2010 down compared with the previous quarter.
Symbian smart phone platform, he said, still the highest compared to other OSes with a market share of 50%, followed by the Blackberry OS Andorid 37% and 10%, while Windows Mobile 2% and 1% IOS.
Indonesia IDC data shows the use of Symbian OS in smartphones decreased to 50% during the quarter III/2010 compared with the previous quarter by 67%.
The use of the Blackberry operating system during the second quarter of this year in the country is still at 23.7%, but increased to 37% in the next quarter.

The operating system that showed decreased use during the third quarter of this year, among others, Nokia Symbian, IOS, and Windows Mobile.
The use of the iPhone OS at home in the quarter II/2010, he said, amounted to 2.1% down to 1% in the third quarter, while the Windows Mobile operating system down to 2% in the quarter compared with the previous quarter III/2010 4.4% .
